Near-Campus Brush Fire

The San Diego Fire Department (SDFD) is responding to brush fire on October 31, 2024 that is located off campus between Fairmount Avenue and Montezuma Road, just southwest of campus.

  • Campus is open and instruction continues.
  • There is no threat to the campus community and no SDSU buildings or residence halls are being evacuated. University Police Department and SDFD are conducting proactive evacuations off campus in neighboroods in the immediate area.
  • Anticipate traffic delays and road closures. Be attentive to any postings or signage, as road closures in the area will be in place at least until midnight. 
  • Be attentive to and follow directions provided by officials.

Oct. 31 at 4:36 p.m.: Campus is open and instruction continues. There is no threat to SDSU and no SDSU buildings are currently being evacuated. Road closures near campus are expected to be in place until midnight. Roads impacted are: Aldine Dr. at Fairmount Ave., Fairmount Ave. at Montezuma Rd., and Montezuma Rd. at 55th St. For those traveling to SDSU this evening for classes and other activities, please take I-8 and exit College Ave. Avoid impacted areas, and expect delays. Oct. 31 at 3:30 p.m.: Some members of the SDSU community are receiving evacuation orders via text from a different agency. The active evacuation orders impact areas around campus, and not on campus. Oct. 31 at 2:28 p.m.: The San Diego Fire Department continues to respond to a brush fire southwest of campus. There remains no impact to SDSU. No SDSU buildings are currently being evacuated.
