Earthquake

On April 14, 2025, a magnitude 5.2 earthquake was reported in the area of Julian shortly after 10 a.m. The earthquake was felt at both SDSU and SDSU Imperial Valley. No injuries or major damages have been reported at SDSU. All are asked to: 

  • Call 911 if you need immediate emergency support.
  • Report campus damage via facilities.sdsu.edu
  • Be ready to take action:
    • If you are indoors during an earthquake: Immediately DROP, COVER, and HOLD under a sturdy desk or table. Position yourself along an interior wall, stay away from glass windows, shelves and heavy equipment that may topple over. Do not run outside unless your building is believed to be in immediate danger or can possibly collapse.
    • If you are outdoors during an earthquake: Quickly move away from buildings, utility poles, and other structures. Stay in an open area. 

April 14: 10:40 a.m.: SDSU Alert: No damage and no injuries have been reported on campus at this time. University team members continue to assess. SDSU and SDSU Imperial Valley remain open -- classes and events are continuing. Remember to be alert and to assess your location. Call 911 in the event of any emergency or if you need immediate help. Report any damage to Facilities: facilities.sdsu.edu.

April 14: 10:29 a.m.: SDSU Alert: UPD, Facilities Services and other campus team members are assessing for any damage to campus at SDSU and SDSU Imperial Valley. Be aware of potential aftershocks -- be ready to drop, cover and hold on. No damage has been reported at this time. Be aware and assess your location. If anyone is trapped, if there is a presence of water or there is any presence or smell of natural gas, leave the area and call 911. If there is no immediate threat and you are safe in your location.
